How the All or Nothing approach to content creation is wrong

If you’ve been creating content online for a while, then you’ve heard that you have to create content every day to grow.

The Gurus say you have to post several times a day every day. They’re pushing what I learned in sports:

  • No pain no gain.
  • All or Nothing.

Instead what needs to be taught is consistency.

Adopt the All or Something Mentality.

Because of COVID, I wasn’t allowed to cross the border in France to play Padel. Yet, I stayed fit and even lost a few pounds I could never shed.

What occurred is that I allowed my body to rest. I had played hard & even harder because I played against men. But playing wasn’t enough. I worked out and played. I was an example of No Pain No Gain. The border closing allowed me to focus on All or Something in my workout routine.

The All or Something mentality is how I was the fittest in 2020. But, when I started creating content online in 2019, I almost fell into the trap of posting every day.

You have to test what you can do and what’s in your best interest.

If you’re working a full-time job like I am and starting a business on the side, do not follow the advice given to post every single day. Unless you can pay for someone to help you.

I understand you want to build visibility and your following, but build around what you can do and not someone who has a team. As a newbie solopreneur, adopt the All or Something mentality knowing something goes a long way toward long-term success.

Here are 3 tips based on what I’ve learned by trying the All or Nothing approach to posting and finally adopting an All or Something.

Tip #1: Build a Content Library. By building your library first, later you’ll have the content ready to use, reuse, and repurpose.

Tip #2: Start writing long content weekly. I avoided this because I didn’t want to write. Instead, I struggled with having enough content to keep up.

Tip #3: Be Consistent. All or Something. If you can post daily, celebrate it. If you can’t, accept it and set up a schedule you can keep up with.

As a newbie, if you follow All or Nothing in posting content be aware of burnout. Content creation is hard work but it doesn’t need to be painful. Focus on what you can do.

If you’re in it for the moment, then go big.

But if you’re creating for the long run, then create with intention & consistency.
